News: YouTube apparently has given the Smosh boys (Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox) back the 24 million views that were erased from their overall view count after YouTube removed Smosh’s most popular video involving a Pokemon lip synch (notwithstanding a strong parody fair use defense for Smosh). The video was removed after the copyright holder to Pokemon sent YouTube a DMCA notice.
The other big news is that Lonelygirl15 just got passed by Fueled by Ramen, an independent label.

re smosh, the parody defense is a no-go. they played the actual pokemon song in the video, that’s the copyright violation. their acting may be a taste violation or something, but it doesn’t save the video. if they’d played the same music and sang altered lyrics, that would have done it.

i posted a fandub of pokemon and got an email that “4Kids Entertainment, Inc. has requested the video be removed”. I went to the URL and got the youtube homepage plus “This Video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by 4Kids Entertainment, Inc.” Damn 4kids and their stupid leader, Al Kahn.
