More on Andrew Keen’s “The Cult of the Amateur”

Instead of writing more of my own views about Keen’s book, I’ll let this YouTuber have her say.  She didn’t even read the book, but she understood its basic idea.  Here she speaks specifically about journalism and news.

Very good points that has been brought up. I don’t know who Andrew keen is, so my opinion is just based on what I’ve heard from this video. If anyone’s ever watched “Good Night and Good Luck”, film about Murrows clash with McCarthy during the 1950s etc, Murrows really lays it out on what the role of the Media should be. Monopoly on the media and it’s conclusions is what is hurting society and culture in my opinion. I would have to disagree with Keen’s notion of where the source of degenerate culture comes from. The fact that people are blogging, are networking, are discussing in various forums is important, because it represents that people do want to be heard, do want to be listened to, and definitely wants to be part of a community that allows for this to happen. How the internet is used, and the role of the internet does not seemed to be important issues for this Keen guy, although I am very much in the dark about this. I just might have to check his book out. In any case, “the cult of the amateur”, is I think how they are belittling peoples attempts at what should be encouraged, discussion, free exchange of information, and more importantly than just having an idea, but formulating ideas and the creation of new ideas. That is what should be encouraged. That is my opinion.

Very much on point there Ulla!
