More American Idol chatter–did American Idol abandon Taylor Hicks?
Sorry, because I’ve had a busy week, I don’t have a Video of the Week selection this week. But in its place, I again have a few comments on American Idol. The last time I posted about about Idol, the post drew a lot of interest. So here are two more posts that I posted on the In re blog, which is written by one of my students. I’ll be guest blogging there for a little bit:

AMERICA SHOULD NOT VOTE PEOPLE IN BECAUSE THEY LOOK GOOD OR BECAUSE THEY THINK IDOLS SHOULD BE ALOT OF FUN. THE OBJECT IS TO BE AN AWESOME SINGER AND TO ME THEY ARE NOT CHOOSING THE RIGHT PEOPLE . TAYLOR GOD BLESS YOUR HEART BUT HE IS NOT THE IDOL THE WAY I SEE IT . CHRIS DAUGHTERY SHOULD HAVE WON AND THEN PARIS OR MANDESA BUT BECAUSE OF THIS LOOK NOT TALENT AMERICA ALWAYS FEELS LIKE IF YOU ARE SMALL OR MEDIUM WEIGHT THAT THEY CAN WORK WITH YOU BUT IF YOU HAVE THE VOICE YOU DON’T NEED ALOT OF HELP BECAUSE GOD HAS ALREADY GIVEN YOU THE TOOL TO SHINE AND TO DO WHAT HE HAS CALLED YOU TO DO NOT MAN.

I routed for Taylor Hicks all the way! He is a unique and humble person. His voice is a refreshing
style, resembling that of Rod Stewart. To me being an ‘Idol’ is more than the performing part; it also encompasses being someone that others can look-up to and be proud of. Showing respect to the judges no matter what they say certainly shows what kind of a person the contestant is inside, too.
For me, Taylor represented all of this very well. We need more performers like him.

I would really like to hear the truth about why american Idol and the powers within never promoted Taylor after he won Idol 5. He sold 700,000 CD’s without any radio play at all, his concert tour went very well,so why did they treat him so badly?? Did Taylor do something that really angered them? I guess all of us Soul Patrol fans will never know the real reason, but I really think it has tarnished American Idol,because the show has not been as appealing since season 5.People do not like to vote for the person they want to win and then see him win just to be thrown to the wayside without giving him their full support,which is what I thought would be part of the winnings. I am very dissapointed in American Idol producers and of course the extremely offensive Simon Cowell…

AMEN to both of the above comentaries. I have been so dissappointed in Idol and disalushioned with their lack of support for Taylor. Last year, they didn’t even bother to announce him as their winner and honestly this year I don’t think they ever even mentioned him. His picture has been all but wiped out on the show opening, it’s like they don’t even want to remember he ever existed. As far as his cd,I don’t know how Taylor was able to even sell what he did because after the first couple of weeks there were absolutely none in stock at the stores here in Memphis. I was also vacationing in Cancun in January, 2007 and the shelves were crammed ful of Carrie , Daughterty and Reuben. Between Idol’s lack of support, Clive Davis’s rude remarks and absolutely no support from the radio station, I am surprised Taylor could sell 10 cds. The record industry has certainly changed in my opinion, it seems to want nothing but clones, “all blonde pretty little girls, bald headed rockers, pop singers or black r&b.” They say they want someone unique but when they get it , they simply don’t know what to do with, because of gray hair and a different performing ability, they just turn their heads and say this doesn’t fit the mold we’re looking for. I am expecially dissappointed in Randy because he saw Taylor’s talent in the beginning and was to weak to stand up and support him after the win. Shame, shame on the Idol show, I think because of the prejudices and rudeness you are on your way out. I know I’m sure not interested in the contestants you have shown us since then. They are just the same old thing. Blah, Blah, Blah. You missed your chance with Taylor Hicks., he is by far the most entertaining and wonderful performed you have had the pleasure of having on your show. Such a pity he didn’t fit the mold and your ratings have done nothing by slide since then.
