Let’s see: Jennifer Hudson placed 7th on American Idol several years ago, but just won a Golden Globe award for her debut acting performance in the major motion picture Dream Girls. Last season, Katharine McPhee placed 2nd on American Idol, but she has made a cameo appearance on the YouTube video series “lonelygirl15.” Smart move?

I would hardly call this Katharine’s acting debut. And the operative words are: several years ago. This appearance was designed to promote her album, and she got the word out to a whole different audience than what her promotional tour would speak to. You honestly think young teenagers wake up early in the morning to catch The Today Show? Or stay up just for Jay Leno?
I say this was a smart move. Katharine will be playing herself on “Ugly Betty” Feb. 1st. She is being sent movie scripts and has already had a meeting with Spielberg. The only difference is Katharine is able to explore her options now, rather than several years from now.

I think this is a good move on Katharine because she is truly trying to reach all audiences thus lonelygirl. Yes, Ugly Betty is a huge one but this was not planned. Kat was sought by the producers of Ugly Betty. She is just really showing her potentials to everyone. Yes Kat is looking at all her options right now but that does not take anything away from Jennifer Hudson who apparently did a wonderful job in Dreamgirls to be noticed so much. Congratulations to Jennifer and Katharine for not winning idol but still pursuing their dreams.
PS…I have not seen Dreamgirls although I am dying to.

For me, Kathatrine is the most beautiful American Idol contestant ever. And she has a really good voice to go with it too. Any career move is good for her. Where there is exposure, there’s another 15 minutes of fame. Way to go, kathatrine!
